Just A Taste of Quilting

Yay!  I am so excited you came to see my blog!  One of my quilts, “Just a Taste” has been published in Quilter’s Newsletter’s special edition called “21 Best Tradition With A Twist Quilts” Winter 2015.  Thank you, Quilter’s Newsletter.

This is an updated version of the classic sampler.  Quilters use samplers to learn a variety of  techniques for piecing and quilting.  If you are a new quilter, this is a great one to start with.  It used common blocks, Rail Fence, Log Cabin, Flying Geese and Lamoyne Star to cover several basics like strip piecing, half-square triangles, templates and y-seams.  It is small enough to give you just a taste of quilting without being intimidating.  And you can buy the magazine and the kit from Quilt and Sew shop here.

The beautiful fabric is from P&B Textiles Color Weave collection.  You can see the entire collection at P&B’s website.

For your chance to win this P&B Textiles fabric bundle, write a comment.  I would love to hear your thoughts!  On February 2nd, I will randomly select a winner from the comments and Quilter’s Newsletter will send you this!

  1. the Lemoyne star in the sampler looks cool….that would be a fun new block to try…..

  2. Lovely colors. I’ve done several samplers. This seems like a great way to learn how to quilt and basic techniques! I’m going to keep this in mine for anyone who asks me go teach them to quilt.

  3. I’m not usually drawn to samplers but yours is lovely! The layout is much more interesting than traditional rows and columns. The giveaway bundle is great — some of my favorite colors!

  4. My first quilt was a sampler – in 1992. A year later, I was using e-mail regularly. However, I couldn’t figure out how to leave this comment until I did the opposite of your instruction and looked above the post. LOL. Well, I always get left and right mixed up.

  5. Forgot to tell you how much I loved 12 days of cleaning – my kind of cleaning, nothing about dust, etc.

  6. I love your quilt. I am selectively drawn to modern quilts and yours is a home run. This one may make me go out and buy this magazine.

  7. I couldn’t agree more concerning new Quilters and Sampler quilts. The very best way to learn techniques and tricks for a variety.

  8. I really like your quilt, I am new to quilting and maybe I could do this. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful day!

  9. Love your sampler! I have not used solid colours in my quilting…yet! As a matter of fact, I don’t think that I have any solids, except for a few smallish pieces that I got from a friend a little while ago. Perhaps I should try some? Thanks for sharing!

  10. Just A Taste is a great way to try piecing different blocks. Congratulations on having your quilt in the magazine!

  11. Your quilt is beautiful. Love the colors you picked too. Thanks for a great giveaway. (debbie at wowilikethat dot com)

  12. Congratulations for being published. I love the idea of learning so many techniques in one small quilt.

  13. I love the colors you chose for this quilt. The white background really makes all the colors stand out.

    1. Great quilt! The colors are so nice and the quilt itself is such a cool twist.
Can’t wait to get this issue.
Thanks for the giveaway and chance to win this bundle-I love cool colors.

I’m just learning Y-seams and flying geese technique(s) so your pattern is spot on.
Thank you for sharing the P&B Textiles Color Weave, they are truly magnificent, modern and rich.
